Luc Tytgat takes on the position of Chairman of the Advisory Board for Aviation Studies at Lazarski University

We are pleased to announce that Lazarski University has entered into a long-term cooperation with Luc Tytgat, who has taken over the position of Chairman of the Advisory Board for Aviation Studies. Luc Tytgat is a recognized expert in aviation, with many years of experience at the highest levels of management in European institutions related to aviation safety.

Who is new Chairman of the Advisory Board for Aviation Studies

In 2023-2024, Luc Tytgat acted as Executive Director and then High Representative of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in Cologne. These functions were the culmination of his career at EASA, which he joined in 2015 as Strategy and Safety Management Director. For many years, Luc Tytgat was responsible for issues related to the management of civil aviation safety, strategy and planning, and international cooperation of the Agency. It was in these areas that strategic directions of action were defined to address the key challenges facing the aviation industry, such as combating climate change, countering new threats, including cyberattacks, and the development and integration of unmanned aviation, for which new regulatory frameworks have been established at the EU level.

His vast experience also includes acting as Director of the Pan-European Single Sky Directorate at Eurocontrol and many years of work at the European Commission, where he exercised the functions of member of the cabinet of the Transport Commissioner and then Head of the Unit in the fields of R&D, EU space programmes and air transport. Before joining the European Commission, he had been an active officer in the Belgian Air Force for 10 years. He graduated from the Belgian Royal Military Academy as an aeronautical engineer and also holds a Master’s degree in Public Management from Solvay Business School in Brussels.
